Winnipeg Sun: NEWS - Water & waste
The federal government has bought $600,000 worth of bottled water over the last two years for staff working in a pair of buildings where the water is contaminated with lead. Although employees at the federal government buildings located in Gatineau, Que. were told the problem would be fixed three weeks ago, it's now slated for the end of December.
The Public Works Department, which holds a lease-to-own agreement on the buildings, hired a company in June for a $1.2-million contract to make the repairs and replace the water fountain pipe systems. Read More..........

DECATURVILLE - Researchers delving into questions about the level of ammonium perfluoroctanoate in the blood of Washington County residents and its possible impact are nearly finished with collecting information.
The study, being coordinated by Dr. Edward Emmett of the University of Pennsylvania, is focusing on customers of the Little Hocking Water Association. Emmett is trying to determine how much of the chemical, commonly referred to as C8 which is used in the production of Teflon products, ends up in the bloodstream.

Weeks said Wednesday that the details of the county's program, including who would benefit and who will pay, have not yet been sorted through.
"It will be expensive water, though," he said. Weeks said he expects the cost of the water produced by desalination will be at least $1,500 an acre-feet, not including distribution costs."
