"Some residents said they already feel burned by the Salinas Valley Water Project, a county project now being built to help resolve the seawater intrusion problem in the northern reaches of the valley.
Weeks said Wednesday that the details of the county's program, including who would benefit and who will pay, have not yet been sorted through.
"It will be expensive water, though," he said. Weeks said he expects the cost of the water produced by desalination will be at least $1,500 an acre-feet, not including distribution costs."
